- Check the mode — make sure it’s on Cool, not Fan or Dry.
- Check the temperature setpoint — set it 4–5°C below the room temperature.
- Inspect the filters — dirty filters dramatically cut airflow.
- Look at the outdoor unit — is the fan spinning? Any debris blocking it?
- Try a hard reset — switch off at the breaker for 5 minutes, then on.
- Confirm voltage — low mains voltage will stop the compressor; check stabilizer.
- Listen for the compressor — a quiet outdoor unit usually means the compressor isn’t running.
- Check vent direction — vertical louvres pointing up cool the room faster.
- Look for ice on the indoor coil — ice = airflow problem or low gas. Switch off; let it thaw.
- Smell for burning — switch off immediately and call a technician.
